The RC5-2/250 is an RC-type surge suppressor designed to minimize peak overvoltage and eliminate high pre-damping voltage frequencies when used with AC-operated conventional contactors with a rated control circuit voltage between 110 and 250 V AC at 50/60Hz. Inductive circuit operation, particularly when opening a contactor coil, generates overvoltages due to the release of stored electromagnetic energy, which can result in voltage surges reaching several kilovolts. These surges may cause electronic interference, insulation breakdown, or damage to sensitive components.
