The UA63..RA 3-pole contactors for capacitor switching are designed for use in installations where peak currents can exceed 100 times the nominal RMS current. These contactors come equipped with damping resistors and must be used without any additional inductances. It is essential that the capacitors are fully discharged—ensuring a maximum residual terminal voltage of ≤ 50 V—before being re-energized. The electrical durability of these contactors is rated at 250,000 operating cycles for voltages below 500 V, and 100,000 cycles for voltages between 500 V and 690 V. Each UA..RA contactor includes a specially designed front-mounted block that inserts three damping resistors in series during energization to limit the initial current peak. This connection also enables capacitor precharging, effectively reducing the secondary current peak when the main poles close. The resistor insertion feature ensures effective damping of even the highest current peaks at switch-on. The UA..RA series is of block type design, featuring three main poles, an AC-operated control circuit with a laminated magnet core, and compatibility with a wide range of accessories.
